I've been playing my new fiddle for 2 1/2 months.  I'm 72 years old (IOW, cut me some slacksmiley)   I've played the banjo (my first instrument) for 7 years and this is one of the tune I play on the banjo.   It just kind of "showed up" on my fiddle after doing scales and "noodling" around.  I've been able to pick up several tunes that I know on the fiddle and that was kind of an amazing thing to me.   I'm having a blast with the fiddle and hope to improve as time goes on.

Nice fiddling! Your intonation is very good for 2 1/2 months

Very cool! Great job. Being a down-bower, I like that the rhythm is steady and I like that you're adding an extra note (at least I think you are) to be able to start phrases on a down bow. I've got two quick suggestions for things to try -- adding an easy syncopation at the end of some phrases and/or doing two up bows to eliminate an extra note sometimes. If you'd like, I'll make you a quick video to explain. Much easier than trying to put it into words! :)

Wow.  Thanks for offering to make a video.   I'd like to take you up on that.

I don't think I'm consciously adding an extra note?   I'm not exactly "up to speed" with syncopation, either.  My music adventure started 7 years ago with the banjo. I had 4-5 lessons,  no music theory and can't read standard notation.   I eventually got to where I could pick up tunes (if they were 1, 4, 5 chords and not crooked.) I'm just an old retired cattleman who got the "banjo itch".   I was only somewhat familiar with old time music until I bought my banjo.  I did watch "Hee Haw" when I was a kid on occasion.   Thanks, Cyndy.

I made a quick video in the spirit of trying to help you build on what you have! It's far from perfect -- and, in fact, the intonation is grating at times -- but I hope it's useful. If you get bored, just fast forward to last couple of examples of mixing things up at the end. :)

Oh, and by the way, as I transcribed the A part, I noticed you have a subtle, but very cool, variation in the third measure if I'm writing quarter notes. (An E vs a D) I don't know if it's intentional, but I like it a lot.

Cyndy,   What a nice thing to do.   I appreciate your taking time to make the video which was very helpful to me, and I'd bet, other folks will find it very helpful, as well.

"(An E vs a D) I don't know if it's intentional, but I like it a lot. "    I'd like to think it was intentional but it was probably an accident.smiley  But, I'll take any accident that doesn't cause people to cringe or break glass.

Thanks for the extra effort.   It was a great help.
