I had a minor fiddling breakthrough last night while jaming with friends.

I often find that when a tune goes on really long I gradually end up holding the bow almost near the middle and it gets very limiting.

Last night I remembered a video about something called the spider walk but only briefly practiced. I used it to walk back on the bow to return to a comfortable position while playing and it worked great. I didn't have to stop playing to move my hand.

I'm sure this is old news to some of you but others at about my level could find it helpful.

I'm gonna practice the spider walk a little more!

I used to find myself doing that. As you get used to it, you'll stop finding your hand so far up the bow. You'll correct before it gets out of position. It's nice to have such things on autopilot so you can just play the tune.

I creep I up the bow about two inches. That is all I allow before working my way back. Good for you for figuring out out.

What I do is just give the bow a little 'toss' Sometimes it takes two tosses but...... Works every time.. This is such an interesting thing that I'm surprised that the topic hasn't come up before..(that I'm aware of)....

Seeing as how you've been playing a long time and on the stage, you probably haven't had this problem for years :)

Here's the late Nimrod Workman doing his specialty "crab walk": m.youtube.com/watch?v=5wx7chQnirU
Maybe you could modify that a bit for your purpose.
