Driving up to Virden, Illinois Friday morning - just south of Springfield (north of St. Louis). Going to pick up some "Diamond Piers". But - I would be interested in knowing about anything that might be worth going to on Friday evening in or around (south of...) Springfield or St. Louis. Ideas anyone?
...leaving in the morning. Looks like an uneventful trip. Oh well...
The drive will be nice. It will be nice just to get away from the house for a day or two.
6 hours up - turn around - and 6 hours back.
Long day, would have been nice to have a reason to stay over somewhere. Couldn't find anything that sounded interesting, so - it made sense to get back home.
What are the facets of these Diamond Piers of which you speak? Are they shiny?
16 smooth facets, but not shiny. foundation piers for a new deck.
perfect for what I need, to avoid digging footings 2' in diameter and 2' deep / saves time and money. But the biggest reason was making a choice to use something less likely to kill a few very mature trees next to the house and deck. And actually, as a foundation for the deck, these will be much better.
But there are no dealers this far south. It was a little cheaper to go pick them up than ship, and I needed an excuse to get away from the house for just a little while.

I remember reading about those now. Lighter than the equivalent concrete and less excavation for the same result. You just need to rent the driver. And call Miss Dig. I didn't once and one time only. Oops.
I bought the driver (EXPENSIVE!!!!) - but they will give me a full refund when I send it back. Can't beat that!
