This is taken from the Shetland trad tune and a friend put words to it. I play it with my husband Dave Francis. It's on a recording called 'Greengold' that we made in 2007. Our duo is called 'The Cast'

It's played a fair bit over here. Chris Stout and Catriona Macdonald, both from Shetland have recorded it. It seems to be one of those tunes that can take all interpretations - it's a generous tune!! Thanks for your support.

Beautiful song, singing, fiddle and guitar by Dave. Is the harmony part a fiddle or viola?
The last note sounded as I was typing, leaving an unsettled feel without the resolution. Nice touch.

Thanks. It's viola and fiddle i'm playing. There are a couple of parts that sit behind the vocal. i love playing viola on songs, it gives a warm sound which seems to work well for us. Watching the royal wedding on telly!

Had to come here on the solstice.
Don't get this feel much in Jacksonville, but I recall my youth in Bloomington Indiana and the solitude I could still find then.

Here are the lyrics Harpon:
It's the dawning of the turning of the year
It's the coming of the growing of the light
It's the leaving by of what is past and done
It's the turning round and facing to the sun
It's the day dawn of the New Year
So rise up and open your doors
and come show good friendship and cheer
At the dawning of the turning of the year
It's the coming of the greening of the earth
It's the leaving of the time of dark and dirth
It's the sharing of the good that we have done
It's the turning round and facing to the sun
Chorus
