I play old time and this fiddle is like a dream to me. It has a deep and mellow sound which is warm but also has good volume. I am extremely satisfied with the sound.

Shay makes violins. This one is a Hopf copy. It was set up for classical in the shop. When I purchased it I asked for the action to be lowered, which he did precisely. The setup is perfect.

The wood is very beautiful. The stain is light and the varnish is crisp and perfect.

Shay is a one man shop. The warranty is for any flaws in workmanship or materials. I’ve had no issues.

I am a bit of a perfectionist, which means I can be picky. But it also means that I deeply appreciate perfection, and this fiddle is really flawless. Every time I pick it up I enjoy it's beauty. I notice things that don't matter to some, such as the perfectly formed nut or the precision of the joint of the fingerboard and neck.
