Where Purchased: a gift sent overland

Year Purchased: 2002
Price Paid: 100.00 ($US)

Sound

Good full sound - not super loud -good volume and alive
very playable!
well, it makes fiddle sounds - it rings, and there is a beautiful eveness all up and down the range. Very nice, very playable for a student fiddle. Even if I am not really a student - but needed an affordable fiddle out yonder! I will give it and 8 - because there are more expesive fiddles out there - but it is fine for most anything!
I haven't amped it, or done wired sounds/effects. It's acoustic fiddle playing alone and in jams - no problem being heard -

I like it - it's solid, the bow that came in the 'kit' is one of my better ones. (carbon fiber, horsehair) feels like wood -
(case, rosin,bow)

Sound Rating: 8

Setup

Wasn't set up -(it was shipped over to the desert - bridge needed to be set up - all strings were on it and soundpost in)
The case (hard, covered, and zips - 2 bow holders & accessory box)
is really a good stable case (hand or shoulder strap inc)

I had it reset up when I moved to desert/ mtn (reno, NV) area - climate/humidity difference
(@- 50.00 - here)
pegs were slipping a little - bridge fix
(Az desert not real kind to wood instruments)
(I played a lot! -But this thing ROCKS! amazing to play, no trouble. no warping or cracks yet -

Setup Rating: 10

Appearance

Yes! Easy on eyes!
standard brown red -(all one color - no woodgrain showing)
Custom inlay? uh, no Student model with good Bow, good case, and good rosin) 4 fine tuners/each string

Appearance Rating: 9

Reliability

Yes - It's dependable as all get out - and stays in tune -
no prob with it, (I had set up checked when changed climates)
fiddle is 100% solid, no cracks, warping, no thin spots, etc -
always ready when I am -tt

Reliability Rating: 10

Customer Service

Components

Check the pegs (as usually if you do a lot of cross tuning or playing -)
plus, you might have per. pref on strings - but the ones that came were totally fine! Really good volume
It comes with 4 string fine tuners -
10 for what it should do -and it does it solidly and well
Components don't seem cheap

Overall Comments

I would definitely recommend this for new to intermediate players -
If it was stolen, I would buy whatever was on the market near me that I could afford -(fiddle fever) probably an upgrade as I have a little bit saved up for a new/real (non student) fiddle
Fav feature? Love it? Extremely happy with it - don't worry about it -
stays in tune, chin rest doesn't hurt, great little 1st model - (or cheap if you can play but don't have a big budget) Great Gift Idea! hooie! Grin! That's how I got it!

Overall Rating: 10

Overall Comments

Yes indeedy! 100.00 was fine for this - Anton violins have a good rep, and this was well taken care of and loved - (case has a plate that says Anton Breton) (I got it with nice brazilwood bow, good camber, horsehair in great shape and frog tensioning turner worked - played right off -
Resonans shoulder rest, rosin, (for a used, it's always smart to get a free shoulder rest thrown in! It came playable and held tuning!

New strings and a bridge and this will be a solid sweety for cross tuning or twin fiddling -

Overall Rating: 9
