This review is for Royce Burt a luthier who lives in Plant City, Florida. I’m not the first one to rave about the re-voicing of old fiddles that Royce does so there is very little I can add to the current reviews but I’ll try to expand on what others have said. Royce has developed a recipe for re-voicing that brings out the best of these old fiddles. The story of these old fiddles is very interesting and can be found on line. Many were made in Germany and sold in the US through catalogue sales just before and after the turn of the century. In many cases the original voicing was not so great, but in all cases the wood used was of excellent quality. Additionally the 100 years or so these fiddles have existed served to enhance the tonal character of the wood. Someone like Royce who really knows what he is doing can make these old timers shine and take on a new life.
Royce is also about as down to earth and easy to deal with as anyone I’ve ever met. He is into his full stride at this point and the output is consistently top notch so give him a call or find him online at this youtube channel …
