I learned this Arkansas tune from Roscoe White from his CD, Arkansas Fiddling. Mr. White was a judge at the Minnesota State Fiddle Championships in the early 1990's.

Writen in 1858, this lovely Civil War era ballad was a favorite of the men of both armies. It's sentimental lyrics and huanting melody were sung around many a campfire by the homesick boys of that great and tragic conflict. Played on fiddle, parlor guitar and minstral banjo.

I love Canadian tunes! This could be Ward Allen's signature tune. One of the most well known fiddle tunes in Canada.
