My first solo fiddle CD "Big Fancy" is officially available!

Sunday, November 15, 2015 @5:13:04 PM

I’m so excited to announce that my debut solo CD “Big Fancy” is now available. This project has been percolating for a long time and, to my astonishment, it’s finally done! Yay!

If you have any interest in a straight-up instrumental old-time album chock full of classics as well as some genuine rarities, then you’ll really dig it. There’s a ton of fiddle and quite a lot of banjo on the recording, in a variety of tunings. I drew my repertoire from Kentucky, West Virginia, Illinois, North Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio.

For the fiddlers out there, I've recorded tunes from Edden Hammons, Tommy Jarrell, Mel Durham, John Lusk, Dennis McGee, Dave Bing, Will Adam, Alonzo Janes, Bruce Greene, Jim Bowles and more! Much of my bowing style draws from the patterns and bow rocking techniques found in the playing of Jarrell, Hammons, Sauber, Gellert, Wine, Molsky, Durham, Martin, Leftwich and a few others! I am a total bowing geek!!

For the banjo pickers out there, clawhammer, 2-finger and 3-finger styles are all represented! I recorded with banjos made by Jason Romero, Kevin Enoch, Bart Reiter, Bob Flesher and Jeff Menzies. Some of these banjos can also be heard on the Dan Gellert CD/DVD set that I produced and released earlier this year.

"Big Fancy" features 21 tracks and comes with a 24-page booklet that contains in-depth liner notes, photographs and artwork. Here’s the track listing:

-Cripple Creek

-Going to the Free State
