The Arts Council is pleased to host the 7th Annual Official Alabama State Fiddling Championship at the 30th Annual Panoply Arts Festival! Representative Mike Ball and co-chair and nationally-ranked fiddle legend Dr. Mark Ralph are back to make this a great day of fantastic music!
This competition is open to contestants from across the nation. It consists of five total categories: four amateur levels divided by age and one Master Fiddler level open to all ages. Each category offers five monetary prizes and trophies, and the winner of the “Master Fiddler” level will be awarded a cash prize of $1,000, along with the Official Alabama State Championship Governor’s Cup. If you don't feel like entering but still would love to participate, just bring your instrument and jam with the musicians.
For reference, below is the typical schedule for the Fiddling Championship. Times may vary.
10:00 a.m. - Registration
10:30 a.m. - Opening Ceremony
11:00 a.m. - Jr.- Jr. Division
12:30 p.m. - Jr. Division
2:00 p.m. - Master Division Preliminaries
4:00 p.m. - Adult Division
5:30 p.m. - Senior Division
7:00 p.m. - Master Division Finals
8:00 p.m. - Award Ceremony
Each division competes for prize money ranging from $25 - $150, with the Master Division competing for prize money from $150 - $1,000.
The Arts Council is grateful for the support of La Quinta Inn & Suites of Madison, as they offer a per night rate of $72.99+tax for fiddling competitors.
