Great Big Yam Potatoes Old Time Music Gathering in Natchez Mississippi

Monday, May 12, 2014

I just moved into the Baton Rouge area.

Apparently there is a festival called "Great Big Yam Potatoes Old Time Music Gathering" which is scheduled for this weekend in Natchez Mississippi.

Actually I heard about this festival a few years ago at "Breaking Up Winter".

For anyone close to Natchez, I hope to see you all there!

I played for about a year in the late 70's. But I got busy raising a family and going to school and sort of forgot about music. In September of 2006, I remembered my fiddle and started fiddling again. Things sure have changed. The electronic tuner and online mp3 music files really change things. Previously, I don't think I ever really got my fiddle in tune, and getting audio to practice to (usually on a cassette tape) was always rather difficult. Now, it is easy to get in tune, and easy to get songs to practice to. With just these two differences, I think that I have progressed ten times as fast this last year compared with the time I spent in the 70's.
