I began listening to country radio at age 11, mostly because it's what my brother listened to. After about a year I moved towards 1960's outlaw country in an attempt to find something more traditional (I've always been a bit of a tradition seeker). Over time I noticed my taste in country music getting older and older, eventually falling into bluegrass music at 13 and starting the banjo. By age 14 I had also picked up the guitar and harmonica. All the while my taste in music was going even further down the traditional-appalachian rabbit hole and I started playing old time banjo styles. I got interested in the fiddle after hearing Clayton Macmichen play Cackling Hen on an old time music CD. This interest was later deepened by seeing a local group perform traditional Canadian fiddle music at a weekly live event. I took out my dad's old fiddle, we ordered some strings and rosin and on July 14, 2024, I began learning.
