THIS INSTRUMENT IS OUT ON APPROVAL
Here's an old Amati model with lots of character, high arching, and very good sound. Label says "Antonius & Hieronymous Fr(atelli) Amati" It's got a grafted neck from not too long ago. This one has been regraduated - both top and back graduated to our standard thicknesses, and a new bass bar made and installed. There are quite a few repairs in the top, all of them sound, and we put in a "preventive" sound post patch since there is one crack not too far from the post area. Pretty solid fiddle, even with the repairs. We didn't to much cosmetically, because it would push the cost too high, so look carefully at the detail photos.
I'd call the sound clear, even, and fairly loud. You can feel the fiddle vibrate as you play. It's got Dominant strings. Give a listen for yourself:
It's best to listen to this with good headphones turned up to real-world volumes. Most computer speakers are notoriously inaccurate.
The recording is a 320 bit mp3, recorded in a practice room on a Zoom H4 by an expert fiddler, with no EQ or any other effects. The room is very flattering, and the fiddler is a very good professional. Unless you are a top player, this fiddle will NOT sound like this for you, but it CAN, if you have the skills.
