More to come..............
NOTE: This fiddle is out on approval. If it comes back, I'll re-post.
This is an old German trade fiddle that I took apart and rebuilt a few years ago when I was developing my skills. It's been living in my closet, but I need the room! It's just an old German fiddle with a Guarneri label, made sometime between 1895 and 1940. It's had the back and top properly graduated, all the cracks repaired, new bass bar, new pegs, fingerboard dressed, composite tailpiece with four fine tuners, new bridge, and new Helicore strings. It does have a well done, small sound post patch. It's lined and blocked, but has a button repair. I didn't do much varnish repair, but it's had a light French polish.
This one came out sounding particularly good. You can hear a high quality mp3 here: http://home.everestkc.net/woodwiz/Music/Guarnerisample100119.mp3, or you can click on the "more info" link below. Best to listen with headphones or ear buds. Computer speakers won't tell you much.
The recording is a 320 bit mp3, recorded in a practice room on a Zoom H4 by an expert fiddler, with no EQ or any other effects. The room is very flattering, and the fiddler is a very good professional, Pat Ireland. Unless you are a top professional, this fiddle will NOT sound like this for you, but it CAN, if you have the skills.
I'm really tempted to hang onto it, but I need to be playing KC Fiddles instruments for obvious reasons, and I need the room for fiddles I'm working on, so somebody is going to get a good fiddle cheap. It's pretty hard to find a fiddle with this sound for less than a couple thousand dollars. The work alone is worth almost that at shop prices. But since it's just an old fiddle with lots of repairs, and since it's just mine, I'll let it go for $650.
It has my standard Pro setup, but I can modify it if you want.
