This is an entry level K C Strings violin. It is made for us by our affiliate in China, who builds instruments to our specifications, and it is set up in our shop in Kansas City. The violin has ebony pegs, fingerboard and tailpiece, Wittner tailpiece with fine tuners, and Zyex strings. The varnish is Urushi, which is pretty unusual these days. but it sounds good and is very durable without being thick.
The maker treats the wood for six months with steam and water in a proprietary process before drying and seasoning for several years. This seems to substantially improve the acoustic qualities of the wood.

There is a link to a sound clip at the "More Info" url below. It's played by Bob Hagnbuch, and recorded with a hand held H4 in our recital space. The recording is a raw MP3, with no processing. Bob's a really good violinist, and most folks won't sound as good as he does, but if you have good speakers, the clip will give you a rough idea of what the instrument is capable of in the right hands.
Price is $500. Bow and case are half price with the purchase of a fiddle, and we give 100% of the purchase price in credit towards a new instrument when it comes time to upgrade.
Edit: I added a couple of sound files here:
Woodchopper's Reel and Billy in the Low Ground. They should give an idea what the fiddle sounds like in the hands of a so-so fiddler.
Edit 2: I was recording today, so I made one more sound file: http://woodwiz.fileave.com/kcseries2008test2.mp3
It's a slow tune, and gives a little different idea what the fiddle can do.
Edit 3: Sold through the store to a lucky beginner.
