This is a very nice older Hopf fiddle. No idea when it was made, but I'm guessing circa 1900 or earlier. I would stack this fiddle up against any Asian import in the same price range. Sweet and balanced sound with pleasing overtones and complexity. This would make a great upgrade for an intermediate student.
There are two cracks in the top plate on both the treble and bass upper bout that have been professionally repaired and cleated. The crack on the bass side extends to the tailpiece. Not unusual for these old fiddles from what I gather. These are evident in the photos. Professional set-up by a master luthier, plays like butter. Ebony fittings, of course.
A very nice fiddle at a good price and returns accepted if you don't agree. Nice, lightweight case included.
