This beautiful fiddle has a resonate and full tone with plenty of volume across all four strings, typical of Roth violins. The lower strings have a rich warm response, and the higher strings sing with a clear silvery voice. The violin is very responsive to the bow. There are no weaknesses in any of the strings, and the sound is clean and full all the way up the neck.
Ernst Heinrich Roth violins have an excellent reputation for quality, and pre-war Roth violins are in high-demand and sell for many thousands of dollars. This is an exceptional value for someone looking for a fine full-size violin at a very affordable cost.
This violin is labeled “Ernst Heinrich Roth, Bubenreuth-Erlangen 1974, Made in West Germany, Reproduction of Antonius Stradivarius, Cremona 1700.” A separate label displays the firm’s brand and serial number.
If you google “spruce tree music Violins - $1000 to $2000” you will see that two of these same model violins are priced at $1,850 each, so this is an excellent opportunity to acquire one at a huge discount from dealer prices.
The violin is fitted with Prims strings except for the E.
Send me a message to request a sound sample, and tell me what kind of music you play (old-timey, classical, or contest). This violin is great for all of these styles.
The tone woods are outstanding. The top is made from spruce with a very narrow grain, and the back, neck, and ribs are made from maple with beautiful figure and flame. The original red-amber varnish is highly transparent, and was beautifully applied over a golden ground.
The violin has very little wear along the edges. It has some tiny nicks on the top, and a scratch from the E-string fine tuner, but is in otherwise excellent condition. There are no cracks or repaired cracks (see pictures).
The fingerboard, pegs, and tailpiece are high-quality dense black ebony, and the pegs turn easily and hold well.
This violin was built on a Stradivarius model, and the arching, edges, and corners are excellent. The length of the back is 355mm. All 4 corners all have real blocks and carefully cut linings. The workmanship is clean and precise both inside and out. The scroll and peg-box are well-carved and the f-holes are crisp, symmetrical, and cleanly cut with a slight fluting in the bottom wings. The purfling has nice “bee-stings” in the corners.
This violin will provide a lifetime of playing enjoyment.
For an additional $25, I will install a Wittner composite tailpiece with 4 fine tuners. This is almost a necessity if you play with metal core strings.
For an additional $50, I will include a brand new Toshira Deluxe dart-shaped case from Shar music. The Toshira case is a suspension case with a strong plywood shell.
Please study the pictures closely as they are an essential part of the description. Please ask me any questions before you buy. I can send you additional pictures if you would like. I have included detailed un-retouched pictures and described it as best that I can.
