Here is a recording played to speed and slowed down a couple of times through to help members who might like to learn the melody of Jay and Molly's, The Mountain House.

I will try to get a guitar back later, but the Martin is in the bedroom and I don't want to wake Beverly up

Chuck -- have you tried the "B" part yet? That part's a dewzie to play and get the intonation on... I've been working on that thing for 6 months!

Carol,

I downloaded Jay and Mollie's version from their Lover's Waltz CD. The melody I recorded is the one that they play several times through before the guitar solo, which plays the same melody.

Jay does go to a higher octave and does some harmonizing as a variation to the original melody so I did not think of it as a B part, but a variation on the basic theme. In order for me to play these variations, I need to have another track to harmonize with or at least one or two other players keeping the rhythm for me.

I am not saying that I am correct, but this was my observation as I listened to the the Ungar's recording, Carol. Perhaps others with a better understanding will advise us both.

Merry Christmas,

chuck

I had ordered the lead sheet for this one (though I can't read music very well). There were things I was having trouble hearing -- and just looking at the sheet music helps me see where the music is going when I can't hear it right.

It does seem that the higher part is actually the melody for a "B" part (though it follows the same chord pattern as the "A" part) so the "A" part can be played right under it (which is done on the recording). That's why I was having trouble hearing it...

My suggestion is to get the basic melody that I recorded for you down then proceed. Its is common to mix things up to make it interesting and why they through in a guitar solo.
