Painting the Same Picture Everyday
I recall a few artists who drew or painted the same scene periodically. As the seasons change? As they age? Well, I try to learn something every time. Sometimes it's a reminder of me getting older.

The O.G. impressionists did it to great effect.
And yes playing the same tune repeatedly can be like that if you consciously approach the repeat from a different direction each time you sit down to paint, er, play it.

Besides key, I have the ability to change from canvas to paper figuratively. I have 100 different comp voices to choose. Every one can be tempo adjusted. I've also figured out how to configure comp with 7th chords, minor chords, or whatever one's fancy.
Shuffle to a drummer is a bit different than a fiddle shuffle. Just like 6/8 is different from 3/4 time. These things can be selected too.
So, for the sake of this exercise, say the tune is a 12bar Blues. Even while everything is essentially an improvisation, I hear it getting stale. Along comes lyrics as a way to separate one tune from the next. Suddenly it's a song! The next tune out of the deck was just that. "Jus' Let Me Be' And you know, the one thing about Art: there is no "wrong."
I don't release it if it weren't to my liking. And my liking changes, but I can't/won't anticipate what someone else will like. So I keep painting.

Seems like a great solution to lack of rhythm players. I am fortunate to get to play with others regularly enough, though after this, I'm thinking of recording a backup track to practice Hickman's Rag. It's |: A | D | G | C :| on a loop, key of C.
