Well besides being really rusty on all my instruments these days...no time for playing it seems...I am using the Macbook with the presonus and Studio ONe...and I can't seem to get to where I can hear the track I'm playing with the headphones. So...once the tracks are recorded, I can hear them in the headphones, but the track I'm recording on, I cannot hear it on the headphones...so I have to listen to it in the room but with the headphones on I just can't hear it right...so it's really hard to get my tracks going good together...there's a difference between in the room and on the machine, plus, I can't hear what's in the room that good because I have to have the headphones on to hear the tracks I'm playing with...sigh...I'm gonna have to get grandson to come and look at it and see if he knows how I can fix that...it would be much easier recording if I could hear it all in the same place...lol...ya know? Anyhow, I did manage to make some time and do a little bit of fiddlin (GDGD) and banjo and guitar, even though it was kinda of awkward to hear it right.

If I recall you have a Presonus AudioBox - Not sure which version, but most of them (iTwo, or 96) have a direct monitoring knob "Mixer" or "Mix" which allows you to adjust the balance between inputs (your microphone) and playback (from the computer), so I would check that first, that is that knob isn't all the way to playback.

If you have an iOne (or similar), there is a "Direct" button to push, but it lacks the balance adjustment (you have to adjust output of playback in the StudioOne software to match). So check to see if that button is on/off.

-------

There is also non-direct monitoring option... essentially just using all the computer DAW software. There should be a button to turn it on or off. As well can go to preferences to have the default on or off. Here's a short video that covers where button is and using that type of monitoring in StudioOne; and how to adjust the latency (hearing echo). Or to turn it off (for above direct monitor); and at how have default off.

Thanks, Alaska...I'm afraid I dont' understand half of the words in the post...but i appreciate your efforts to help. RichJ found the problem for me by searching it online (I tried that but didn't find anything...lol)...the Macbook was using its own mic instead of the Shure mic I use with the presonus. So...I had to find how to get "External Microphone" in there...can't remember where I found it now, but I found it and now it's working like it's supposed to. Thanks again, though...fortunately I didn't have to know much or do much to fix it.
