This is a fine instrument by Orest Putsentela, one of Ukraine’s finest makers. His work showcases the Italian training of his father as well as the ideas that he has added to the family’s own models.
Putsentela violins are played by excellent players here and abroad. The maker has won violinmaking competitions and has earned the praise of many professional musicians. This one was played by a violinist in the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center until just recently. It’s subtly powerful, with a robust and dark tone, a common profile for instruments by this family (many new violins are overly bright for several years before breaking in).
