There's a great concert coming up in Northwest Illinois on Saturday, May 6th. It's good enough that I'm going to drive 6 hours and stay overnight to see it. It's the Rhythm Future Quartet, headed by Jason Anick, a rising star in the jazz world, and a great guy as well. I know him from Fiddle Hell events in the Boston area. Jason's one of the most interesting and entertaining jazz fiddlers I've heard, and RFQ is one of the best Django style jazz groups I've heard in the past few years. Jason is a professor at Berklee, THE school for creative musicians in the USA. rhythmfuturequartet.com...app_id=js_rhythmfuturequartet.com...e_from=242">Rhythm Future Quartet

We've got plenty of good music in and around K C, but I haven't seen Jason in years, and he and his crew are worth the trip, IMO. Certain things I envy about living in New England, but not enough to move there. ;-P

The gig was wonderful! It was worth a six- hour drive each way, plus an overnight stay.
If you like Gypsy Jazz and ever get a chance to see the Rhythm Future Quartet in person, go see 'em. They write wonderful tunes, and their playing has few equals. I'd put them right up there with the Time Jumpers and Tuba Skinny on my personal favorites list of active bands.
