Forgot my shoulder rest one day and have never put it back on.
I found that without it my intonation improved. I can feel the vibrations. I am more in touch with the violin.
What shoulder rests carry the vibrations to the shoulder blade?

Wow - intonation is my achilles' heel - I never considered how a shoulder rest could be involved. My intonation is bad to the point where I'd be willing to upset the apple cart that is my current shoulderest setup if it might improve intonation. Something to think about - thanks for the thought seeds.

I was watching a lot of old time players and watching some videos with different (mostly classical) players and was recently persuaded to dump my shoulder rest altogether. I don't think I'm likely to go back. Just a more relaxed and integrated way to interact with the fiddle. Just ime.

Some players having problems with shoulder rests are not using them correctly. It helps to have a shoulder rest that works for you. I used several different shoulder rests before I started using a Bon Musica. It works for me. A fiddle shop owner helped me use a shoulder rest more effectively.

I have never been comfortable playing with a shoulder rest, but after experiencing some shoulder problems, I started trying them again. I tried several, but I still couldn't find the right fit. I have always used a tall chin rest, but I needed more. I came across the Kreddle chin rest, and it combined with the Kreddle cushion has greatly improved my ergonomics. It might not work for everyone, but it is quite adjustable and may be worth trying.
