I love my D’Addario tuners since I can place them on the violin body. Unfortunately, placement of my Peterson Strobe HD is NOT so convenient. I can put it on one edge of the scroll, but not easiest to see, and placement is precarious.
(I’m using the Peterson because it has tuning for perfect 5ths on violins and violas. I’m still tuning three of the strings by ear, but checking my efforts against the digital tuner.)
Yesterday, when I was moving between violins, I clipped the Peterson to the top of my metal music stand, then got another violin. I ran the bow across a string and the Peterson lit up brightly, and with the correct note! The rest of the practice session, I left the Peterson on top of the music stand and tuned each violin that way! (Some locations on the stand didn’t work as well or at all. Didn’t work at all on the lip where books sit. Didn’t work too well on lower part of the stand, around books. Worked best on the top part of the stand, away from any books.)
I might try getting a small metal plate (like a small holder for iPad or iPhone?) so that I can use the Peterson off-instrument when I’m not using a music stand.
