Have any of you heard of a device called Wonder thumb? It fits over your thumb and the neck of the fiddle rest on it. I have arthritis in my hands and I have a hard time holding the fiddle neck up in the proper position. So I have a tendency to let it rest on the palm of my hand. Makes it difficult to play double stops. Saw this device advertised on Amazon.

Hey, John, I think palming the neck reduces the finger reach and makes it worse, so you're right to try otherwise. Never heard of this aid, but looks like it's cheap enough to try.
I cain't believe a top cattleman has gone this long for arthritis be the biggest stumbling block--I would expect the usual finger/knuckle-mashing from the working-chute and tendon-tearing from holding a rope too long.
Wish we could play some 'grass together sometime.
Edit: Sorry, I ddn't intend to drift...carry on

Nothing I like better than playing grass! I cut my teeth on a Lester Flat Earl Scruggs 45!
