I already own a Fishman Aura pre-amp, and have been very happy with how natural it makes my electric Yamaha YEV-104 sound through it.
I'm about to buy a pickup for my regular fiddles, and had decided on the well-known Fishman V200. I know it will work well with the preamp.
But Southwest Strings (local for me) has a Headway "The Band" pickup, so I'm considering that too. It seems like that should work well with the Fishman Aura, but I can't find any reviews of that combination. Has anyone tried that combination?
BTW, I've also considered little mics like the Audio-Technica ATM350, but right now I want a pickup.

That's a good idea. What makes it nontrivial is that SW Strings went mail-order only because of Covid. I bought some strings from them in the last half year and they would not let me pick them up in person. They are next to the main Tucson post office so I actually got them within 24 hours.
Right now I'm guessing my options are (1) order The Band, try it myself, and return it if it doesn't work well with the Fishman Aura, or (2) ask them to try my Fishman Aura with an acoustic violin, The Band, and a THR 5a amplifier, which they sell.
Normally they have rooms available to try stuff.
I'll call them to see what my options are.

I had to review, but v200 is just a transducer, and v400 is the embedded bridge model. I have the v400 and love it. But I didn't have but myself to fit and profile that bridge. I was sweating. If I screwed up, it would be costly. Something to consider. It still feeds back a bit if you crank the amp. I use a Tube preamp fwiw. The reason I like this setup is because it sounds so woody and acoustic. Best of Luck

Online it looks like the V400 is the viola version and the V300 is the violin version. I'll consider it as I have an excellent luthier who could do the installation. Plus I was thinking of asking him to install some geared Perfection pegs on the same instrument so I can go more easily between standard tuning and cross A. And I have a bow that needs a rehair.

I bought "The Band" from Amazon about a month ago, and am very pleased with it. Very natural tone, no matter what amplification I play through. I've been using various violin transducers in nightclub settings since 1974, and the Band is the best, as far as I can tell. First, it's not a permanent alteration to the fiddle or the bridge. I can put it on or remove it, as the need arises. Next, it has a very "natural" violin sound, very balanced. You can make it feed back, but you really have to push the volume to make that happen. And if it does, I found that tweaking the midrange on the amp a touch makes the feedback go away.
I'm not particularly thrilled with the price of this thing, and I don't know how rugged and long-lived it is, but for now, I quite happy.
