Read in the paper that one of my relatively local music stores is closing shop. I've shopped there since I was in college, and they are finally closing their current location. Good news is they say they plan to open a new location which happens to be closer to home.
On a hope that they might be selling off inventory, I stopped by Saturday on the way home from a hunting trip to see what they had. Most had been heavily picked over. All full size violins were gone (though there was a nice viola still on hand). I was really hoping they might have a good case and the guy I spoke with said they had a room full!
Unfortunately, they had a room full of fractional size cases and only a couple full size, but I spotted this dusty blue case.
Its a Howard Core CC500 in dark blue. I asked him how much and made the deal for $10.
It was missing a snap which I replaced in as much time as it took to type this. A quick vacuuming and cleaning found that there were still two bows inside (one that is actually quite playable), a set of brand new Thomastik Dominant strings, and some other case candy.
As for the case, it is very nice quality. I like the quality of build as well as the quality of the closures. Inside is plush and fits both my fiddles nicely. 4 bow holders seems like overkill, but it also came with a string tube and holders for that. I cannot tell if the hygrometer works, but they are always suspect anyway. The pockets fit my shoulder rest and plenty of other stuff as well.
For the price, I absolutely cannot beat it, but I believe I'd buy another at MSRP as well.

Photo of the case with my Hopf in it.
Edit, I guess, I still need to figure out the forum photo utility.

Chinnrest - The easiest eay to add photos is to upload them to your homepage here and then attach them to your post.

Donna, I guess we all get lucky once in a while!
Lets see if this photo attachment works.

Doug, we didn't get skunked, and any day hunting is better than a day at the office!

Looks like a nice case! And that's definitely a good price!
