Hi there,
Can anyone give me advice on a fiddle stand? The one I bought previously was this one:
gear4music.com/Woodwind-Brass-...L6N_D_BwE
But I find it isn't steady enough. The leg at the back is shorter than the other two and I find that this makes it a bit 'wobbly', especially when putting the fiddle on it or taking it off. At my last gig I accidently brushed against the stand (gently) and the whole thing toppled over with my fiddle on it! Thankfully my fiddle wasn't damaged but I don't want that happening again!
Any advice or good examples of stands would be really appreciated.
Thank you!

I use a five gallon plastic pale. Lined with a bath towel, held in place by a bunjy cord.
IMHO fiddles get injured by falling. They might hang them up in a shop, to save space, but my violins are either in cases or in that bucket, or under my chin.

I have the Hercules stand that you bought and I really like it. The trick to it is that when you extend the legs, you stop extending them when they reach their maximum 'reach'. At that point, the stand has its maximum stability. If you keep 'extending' them past that point, the stability of the stand decreases to the point where it becomes unstable.

I don't often use a stand, but I did one show where I used one like this (which came up on the page you linked): gear4music.com/Woodwind-Brass-...lack/1W21 It seemed very stable, but it wasn't in a place where you could bump it.
You can see it in the attached photo, but not the H shsped base, which is like the banjo and bass stands in the picture.

Yeah. I have a Hercules stand and don't like it. I put it up and purchased an Ingles stand. I much prefer it for it's design , materials and construction R/

Yeah, that's very similar to the one I mentioned, which is also available from Amazon, as well as other similar ones under different names. Shar also sells the Ingles, and its very highly regarded. The "H" shaped base is nice.

I've found that violin stands that sit on the ground are problematic. I use this... musiciansfriend.com/accessorie...ow-holder

I have a Glasser GVS-100 and really like it. It's very stable whether bumped from the front, back or sides.
More expensive than the others discussed but IMO worth it

If you like the Glasser, you'd be better off to buy it at Amazon: amazon.com/Glasser-STANDVVAU-G...07G8WZKVY
Or Southwest Strings: swstrings.com/product/accessor...viola/MVS
Looks nice.

Absolutely Doug. This one was a gift from my wife who, I suspect, found the best deal.

I use something like this (not as nice as this). Works great, keeps the fiddle off the floor where some klutz might kick it over. For some reason the klutzes I've been in bands with never tripped over a mic stand.

Thank you so much everybody for your replies. Bees I'll have another look at the Hercules, if I'm still not happy I think I'll treat myself to a Glasser or Ingles.
Cheers everybody! :-)

I use this same one for my gigs. Only bummer is it often puts the fiddle pickup right in front of the monitors.
