Possible acquisition. No name no markings. Was bought in an estate sale for $500 around 20 years ago and is supposedly super old. Original tailpiece is included but not pictured. Still had cat gut strings when it came out of the attic. 1 piece back. Top has been refinished. Anyone know any ideas as to where it hails from?

I once had a Neuner and Hornsteiner from the mid 1800s that certainly had similarities to this instrument. Is the rib on the lower bout 1 piece from point to point, or is it 2 piece with a seam/ joint at the end pin? That might verify some things. As for the value, if it sounds really great it might still be worth $500. If the sound is just good, I wouldn't want to pay more than a couple of hundred for it.

Is there a label on the inside?

There are no markings whatsoever

Top being refinished is usually not good. Violin finish is a special thing. It ultimately boils down to how does it sound.
Pictures of the inside of the ribs through the F holes would be helpful to see if the inside was put together with care.
