Many years ago (over 40) when I first started trying to teach myself the fiddle, I had one of these Cherrywood octagonal bows. I really liked it back then, and the balance felt better than the fiberglass bow I'm using now. This one is supposed to have real horsehair. Is anyone familiar with this bow? How good can it be at this low price?
Stew Mack Cherrywood Bow
Thanks, y'all

Well ... no I am not familiar with this bow. I will say I have yet to buy something that I would identify as "crap" from Stewart MacDonald. At that price point it is likely a working student grade bow. No more no less. For that money and shipping it will come in at around 40$ +/-.... which is less than I paid for the last rehair I had done. R/

I had a StewMac cherry bow of the same make/price range that lasted about five years before it exploded in my hands while playing one day. But I liked it while it lasted. If you need a bow and have 30 bucks, do it. Maybe don't wind it up too much or wear goggles after a few years?

Now that is funny, right there, Shawn!
Back in the 70's I was playing a friend's fiddle, and the A string suddenly snapped at the peg, and sprung back to put an unsightly red mark on my forehead and nose. My buddy got a big kick out of telling everybody that Ken got his arse whooped by a fiddle string.

Lucky you didn't lose an eye, it has happened, which is why I close my eyes when I tune with my head in playing position.
