Newly obsessed with the guy, and have heard him on the Sutphin album, and heard his influence in Joey Burris. But there's not a ton out there. Anybody know of field recordings being passed around out there?

There are 2 songs by Greg Hooven " Won't Come Until Morning" and " Darling Corey" on the "Classic Old- Time Fiddle" from Smithsonian Folkways Recordings CD.

There are some videos of him playing on youtube.com just type Greg Hooven in the search box.

The dude could pack more variation in two minutes than most of us could in 20. And a great singer, too.

Beyond field recordings, his albumes with the new ballard's branch bogtrotters are great.

Yes Jim, you are correct. His recordings are all great. I remember him jamming on Paddy On The Turnpike at the Grayson County Fiddler's Convention. What a torrent of soulful notes played with great heart and monumental drive. It was sad to see him at the end unable to move much less fiddle. His fiddling reflected the intensity of his life.

Well said.

Hi, I’m happy to see the comments here about Greg and his fiddling. Greg was a force of nature, and anyone who knew him will tell you that his live playing far surpassed any studio work. What I’ve been able to unearth is on the archive website already mentioned in this thread. I know there is more field documentation of him out there, as his playing was well loved. Please take some time to sit and listen to what I’ve got thus far, and I hope you enjoy
