I got it from an estate sale and it is beautiful with some worn areas.

Inside the cello it says Wm. Lewis & Son a division of The Selmer Company. Inc. Elkhart, Indiana Anno 1999

There is a cello and bow in a soft bag.

Says Orchestra?

I am in Julian, CA and not sure if I want to keep it for my son to learn on it or sell it. First it would be nice to know a little more about it. I guess it is full size since I see nothing saying otherwise.

Julian is in a nice area of SoCal. The tape on the fingerboard indicates a student was learning on this instrument and either replaced the instrument or more likely never got past the tape marker stage. Wm Lewis is an importer and their instruments range from low to medium high end models. It appears that the heel may have been damaged and repaired. Did it come with a bow? Is that a soft case / bag on the floor ? Are the strings shot. Can it be tuned and stay in tune for a session of practice? Are the pegs turning freely ? are the pegs slipping. If your son is truly interested in learning to play a cello take the instrument to a string ie. violin viols cello shop and have it looken into. Photos can only tell anyone so much. R/

Looks like the NECK was broken off and repaired. If the boy wants to learn on it, keep it and get it assesed. I doubt it's worth all that much as a resale with that rough looking repair.
