Hi, I hope I am on the correct forum. My father has a beautiful blonde fiddle with a loud, rich sound that many people have complimented him on when travels around to play bluegrass. The label says it is a Vienna Orchestra Violin made in 1912 for ET Root and Sons (Chicago). He is looking for some history, perhaps a maker, maybe a site that would have more info, and maybe a ballpark value. We haven't had much luck in finding other samples of this fiddle. Thanks in advance for any info.

I found an old forum on another site, that said they were most likely made in Markneukirchen, Germany. They are trade fiddles, sold as student models. The one I found was listed as a model 536, which is probably a higher priced model. 6 years ago it was appraised at $250. As in the Maggini thread, if it sounds good, it might be worth a bit more than that nowadays. But hey if it's that pretty and sounds good to boot, it's a win man, play the heck out of the thing.
