A new CD by David Bragger and Susan Platz arrived in my mailbox this morning!

"King's Lament" is a selection of (mostly) old time fiddle tunes presented as fiddle duets - not to be confused with 'twin fiddle' tunes.

15 tunes, 14 from the catalogs of well-known old timers (the lone exception is a tune written by David) presented for your listening pleasure.

I haven't found a tune I haven't enjoyed, but I'm only on my first time through the CD.

I was lucky enough to get in on the GoFundMe for the CD, so I may be a bit ahead of the game, but look for it at oldtimetikiparlour.com or, maybe, a music store near you soon.

You won't be disappointed!

Thanks for the nice words Brad! I hope you continue to enjoy it. We had a wonderful time recording and putting the package together. Nick Bachman and Howard Rains did such a knockout job with all the amazing art too!

My CD arrived last week and I played it over and over all weekend long. To me, it feels like the harmony parts expand the tunes into a new dimension that I find enveloping in a calming sort of way. Listening to the music has been very relaxing--but that's not to say there aren't some rousing pieces on the CD! All of the tunes have an energy and subtle pulse that make my tapping foot come alive. :)

Here's Sally in the Garden--a nice taste of David and Susan's playing--but it's just a tiny hint of the wonderfulness that's captured on the CD.

It's not just the music that makes the project, though. The liner notes are a fascinating read, tying the tunes to their history and providing insights into David and Susan's connection to them. And the booklet includes paintings by Howard Rains (if you're not familiar with his work, check it out here) and a cover by Nick Bachman (both old-time musicians who have posted on the Hangout).

So, yes. I'm definitely a big fan of this music and I agree with BanjoBrad. This is a CD worth checking out! :)

Yeah, Cindy, I forgot to mention the liner notes, and I had intended to do so.

I got mine in the mail too and it is a wonderful album. The 2 fiddles sound great together. Go out and get it today.
