Hey Gang,
I posted a snippet of Maydells Reel on my page and would like opinions of her speed...I still think shes too slow? But I want her to bounce and not drive..Gotta clean up those pulloffs a bit and color it up with more improv but just curious about the meter..If yall have time , please take a listen , tell me watcha think?
Thanks,
John

Sounds good to me. Is this an group thing or is one instrument supposed to be featured. The banjo seems to "take center stage". Speedwise, it seems to be right. Reels are supposed to be a danceable speeds. I have heard reels and hornpipes played faster than breakdowns.

Where does Maydells Reel come from? Nice restraint and tone on your banjo, and I like the tempo.

Hey Guys,
Yeah, this is a work in progress so Im just gettin the feel for the 16s on the banjo , checkin speed vrs bounce (dotted 16s).Jim Hyndman (double stop) and I are gonna colab on this one..Yeah Jim H,I first heard this tune at the big fiddlers reunion in Mt Airy NC being played by flatpickers..I loved it so much, I took my little hand held recorder ,taped it and worked on it the rest of the night.
..Also ,Butch Baldresari has it on his solo project.I tried to find out who actually wrote it but came up empty???

Listened to a soundclip from Butch's version, it's Stuart duncan on fiddle, very different from the version I worked up from John's banjo track. also found out it's written by Kelly Lancaster. Here's Kelly playing it on guitar:-
