I use Realband for most if not all on my recordings. I find it fun to use and it is a fairly uncomplicated program.

Just wondering if anyone else use it. Jerry

I have it too..................

Not available for Mac. Just Real Tracks, which I use.

I have it on my system. But I had trouble finding BIAB styles I liked for the tunes I was playing, and pretty much stopped using BIAB. Just started playing banjo again and BIAB has styles for bluegrass banjo. I will probably watch the Youtube instruction on Real Tracks again. Some people create especially good sounding BIAB files. They must a lot better at RealBand and the drum options than I am.

Warning - I activated the BIAB "pdf" software. Big mistake. I had to immediately uninstall that program. It is intrusive, frequent, annoying, etc.

Brian, Are you talking biab..they have realtracks in them. Unless I'm wrong they make Realtracks  for the applicatin Realband for mac. Jerry

Hi Jerry. Yes, BIAB. But as far as I can tell the application Realband is only for PC, not Mac. For better or worse I am a mac guy. I am not real clear what the difference is, but your Realband tracks sound a bit better than my Realtracks.

BIAB is a funny program. I wish somebody with some sense would take it over and make it cleaner. I don't know of another program that does what it does, though.

fujers - Posted - 10/24/2016:  11:05:38

The newer versions of biab have the program Realband. This where you can make up any style you want..add or subtract muicians. I like  it because I can make up any style I want..with the musicians I want at any tempo I want. The same thing can be accomplish sort of with biab. There limits to biab to what you can play. It's so much easier to use realband for me at least. Learning how to use realband is much easier if you already know how to use biab.

Now days...theres not a song that I play without using some sort of realband in it. But i've been using it for a long time. So if I just want to create a beat I just add a beat. If I just want a guitar..I add a guitar. If I just a whole band..of any style from bluegrass to jazz and beyond al I do is hit a couple of buttons and wa la I've got it.

Neat program. Jerry

Neat program. Jerry

What I have started to do is make an arrangement using realtracks in a bluegrass style in Band In A Box. Then, when I like it, I export the tracks individually as aiff files to my desk top. Then I add them into a multitrack program where I can mix them however I want. After that I can add as many tracks of me as I want, and drop any biab tracks if I want.

I haven't really had time to bring anything to completion yet, but that's the basic idea. I realize I've never posted anything here but maybe I will some day. Your encouragement to everyone to do so is a good thing.

Brian thats what I do . I make the tracks in biab first. I then transfer them to Realband. Playing in realband is where the fun begins. I know life takes you to different places sometimes doesn't it. Perhaps oneday you'll be able to put something together and show it to use..If not..not .Jerry

Well, you're in luck. Or not. It's a rainy day here so I went ahead and made one. Don't be too hard on me.

Brian, You know I'm putting together a  Cd of use all playing don't you. I think this tune will fit in nicely. Great playing by the way. We have Peggy, Dave Reiner and a bunch of others participating and I would be honard it you would be a particitpant. It doesn't cost a dime and it would be fun. When was the last time you have ever been on a CD..perhaps you might concider it. If so send a copy of this tune to my personal email.

Again you sounded great my friend. Jerry

PS: The songs you play will not be sold

Maybe a little off topic, but close:  Can BIAB Pro be installed and run on/from an external hard drive?

Thanks.

Yes, I have that version of BIAB. What is not available for mac, as far as I can tell, is Real Band. I don't actually even know what it is, except from what Jerry said it seems to be a recording program.

External hard drive. Well I have all my tracks on an external hard drive that came from the company. Weather or not you can run them or not I just don't know. I got mine loaded on my pc. I don't see any reason you can't run them but I'm a woos when it comes to that king of knowledge. Jerry

I've tried to find some example of this program being used for Irish music but I haven't had any luck.

I broke down and purchased the least expensive edition, the Band in a Box Pro.  For $129 it seems to be a good investment. I'll be using it to learn to play with other instruments which, I discovered, is a whole nuther world from practicing in my back room.  shock  It is very flexible in what it can do and how it can do it.

There are a number of Irish/Celtic tracks available in the basic program and more as the price of the product increases. You can even create your own tracks & tunes and even import songs of any genre in .wav, mp3 and other formats.  BIAB can be used with/for any style of playing, so I'm thinking there are examples of it being used for Irish music but a listener may not even realize the music, or most of it, is being performed by the computer.  Perhaps one of the fiddlers here, who play Irish/Celtic styles and use BIAB, will jump in with better information on how they use it (if they do).

DOH!  I didn't realize I was talking about two different realities.  blush   Thanks!

I mean if you think about it..just think about it. How many programs give you live musians at your beckon call. I can only think of a few...and man they are hard to navigate.

To me and my simple mind....and just with a few clicks you can have just about any player you want in your recording. Me myself...I think it is a musians dream...Now here I am a player and I can't speel musian right...someone come shoot me.

I don't know...I my self use it..and it does wonders for my music if you can call it that.

This tune I did with the program...it's not finished yet....will I ever finish anything..I don't know. Jerry

If anyone felt inclined to make me a couple of tracks using the 'celtic style' that would be great. smiley

I just need to know that the program's version of 'celtic' will jive with my sense of timing for Irish tunes before I can see myself making the plunge.
