Sound

I am a newby but I try to play Old-time and Bluegrass. This violin came set up from the factory and I have been using that way with no problems. It has broken in very nicely. It was a little quiet on the bass side at first but now it is full and rich sounding. It compares to fiddles much higher in price. |

Setup
|
The fiddle was set up with Perfection pegs by the factory and was ready to play. I have not done anything but tune it and play it. I love these Perfection pegs. No fine tuners to mess with, and the fiddle feels light as a feather. I will be changing to a Guarnari style chin rest, but that is just my preference. |

Appearance
|
It has a beautiful honey brown color with very nice tight curl on the two piece back. The sound board also tightly grained. Fit and finish is wonderful. The scroll is nicely carved and although the finish is sprayed, it is nicely antiqued. |

All the fittings (except the pegs) are ebony. Outfit includes thermoplastic case with aluminum valance & strap rings, Knilling Glasser fiberglass bow with horsehair, rosin and pitchpipe. (mine did not come with a pitch pipe, but I use electronic tuners anyway)

The Perfection pegs really make the instrument. It is lighter and seems louder without the fine tuners. Also getting real ebony fittings (rather than ebonized hardwood) at this price point is outstanding. |

I love this fiddle. If it were stolen I would buy another just like it. I also have a Adolph Adler Sr. (Dresden, Germany 1754) fiddle from early to mid 1800's and a Palatino 450. The Knilling is my favorite to play because it plays easier and louder than the Palatino and I don't worry as much about it as I do the German fiddle. It's perfect for jams. |
