Never seen one .... ever. Anvil might make you one but it would be expensive and you wouldn't want to carry it around......... |

That sounds like it would be a monster! Fiddle case in one hand, banjo case in the other. Use the banjo case to nudge people out of the way and open doors. A shoulder strap or backpack straps on either of them would make it easier too.

Hey, at least I'm not looking for a double BANJO case. That would weigh a TON.

I know a guy who has a fiddle/mandolin case. (Of course mandos are smaller & weigh a lot less).

How about a gig bag that would hold both?

A banjo is a VERY heavy instrument. The better the banjos are, the more they seem to weigh. Just the opposite of most stringed instruments. I wouldn't want my fiddle to share a case with a banjo. I would worry about something happening that might damage the fiddle. If I wanted to carry a banjo and fiddle, I would backpack the fiddle. I have never seen a case like this. If one were specially made, it would be exceptionally deep and expensive to have made. |

"His fiddle an' his banjo in a gunny-sack,
he sat beneath the trees down by the railroad track;
engineers would see him, settin' in the shade,
jammin' with the music that the drivers made..."
(with apologies to Chuck Berry...)
(BTW, Johnny B. Gooder if'n he stick to fiddling or frailin', one er t'other.) :-)

While some banjos are VERY heavy, others are just heavy. A fiddle weighs less than one pound and to to just add a little wood to expand the size of a case wouldn't add all that much weight. If such a case was built sturdy enough I don't think a fiddle would get damaged . Its all in the padding ( I say with fingers crossed).

M'friends, I play both banjo and fiddle and another instrument I'll expose in a moment. It does not bother me at all to hold a banjo or a fiddle. To me, compared to my other instrument, they are both light! Yes, good 'jos seem to be very heavy. Good violins are light. Combine a case for each and that sounds like a monsterous miscreation, even if it doesn't weight that much!
But if you want to talk about monsters let's talk about piano accordions and their cases. My accordion weighs about twenty pounds, some weigh even more.
Now, try carrying this massive thing, which is very much a small organ, around in an eight pound case (necessary to keep it from busting under the weight of the accordion)? Not pretty. In fact, convenient cases are like suitcases and have wheels on them.
So I hardly ever travel with my accordion. Who wants to carry around thirty pounds of reed-beast. So I never complain about my banj or fid when I think about carrying my sqzbx (sounds like a good abbreviation for "squeezebox").

I have an English Concertina. Its chromatic, tiny and I can play most any fiddle tune on it. I can also lie on my back in the cool grass under a tree or lounge in a shady hammock and play it all afternoon. Hard to do that and play the fiddle or a piano accordion I would guess.
wait...what was the topic?
oops

Oh, who cares, fiddlerjoebob, the subject was multiple instruments anyway. I have a concertina too, cutest little thing ever, nice and light and portable, but it doesn't work well and I hate that diatonic nonsense, just like the harmonica. I'm afraid I'd be crushed if I tried to lay on the ground and play piano accordion.
Diatonic instruments are just beyond me... a tone for in and a tone for out... ugh... wish I had me a little chromatic concertina. The piano accordion is chromatic, the same note for in and out.

Sounds like this subject is drifting off course. I can't find a case for banjo and fiddle. A mandolin/fiddle, double violin, and viola/violin cases are all I can find. Let's stay on topic please. |

I think Usually Pickin's right on all accounts here. Anvil could make you a case of this sort, but you better bring your appliance-moving dolly to wheel it about.

I have friends who have built their own cases for wonkily shaped instruments using blown foam - the insulating expansion stuff. You can see Juju's case here for his guitar. He's a real friendly guy and would be happy to give you advice.

Lay them both out on a table and figure out how big of a box you need, built it, wrap your instruments in plastic, fill it with foam and nestle them in. When it sets, remove instruments, sand foam smooth, cover with crushed velvet/spray adhesive. Go to jam.
Seems easy enough! (Juju is a master craftsman, so for him it was!)
