Enjoyed a whole day of jamming today at the Fiddlers' Fair, Genesee Country Museum in Mumford, NY today (near Rochester). Really a top-notch Fiddlers' Fair -- lots of performance tents and other venues plus several really good jams going on.
Another day of it is scheduled from 10-4 tomorrow. This is a good opportunity for those of you in the Finger Lakes / Western / Central New York -- especially those of you in/near the Rochester/Buffalo/Syracuse regions to enjoy and participate in some great Old Time (with some Celtic also) jams.

Had a really good time playing at that Fiddlers' Fair today -- all day -- and am going back tomorrow for more.

Good old Central New York. : ) I was born and raised in a small town in Oneida County. I'll have to keep an eye out for this next year. If I happened to be traveling through ...
What kind of music's being played in the state? Anything unique to that area?

Been years since I have been to that. Who were some of the fiddlers there today? If you see Mark Schmidt, tell him, "hey" from the old buzzard

I didn't go to any of the stage performances today -- just played for 4-5 hours at the Fiddlers of the Genesee (FOG) jam tent, as well as Mitzie Collins's hammered dulcimer jam tent. Several members of FOG were there, mainly fiddlers, of course. Actually besides myself there was only one other Clawhammer player I saw. At any given time there were probably 15-17 musicians playing in the jam tent.
One of the best fiddlers I heard is a guy from Bradford, PA, Howard Blumenthal (no, not the media/tv guy ! a different Howard Blumenthal), who is also a member of the Fiddler's Hangout. He was certainly among the best I heard. An excellent hammered dulcimer player from Binghamton, NY, Curt Osgood, who also plays some clawhammer banjo, performed on one of the stages but also played quite a bit in the FOG jam tent. Another excellent player.
Actually this was really a good festival ... some of the best Old Time fiddle tunes I've heard played in quite a while.
