Greetings, everyone. I have not been active on this forum for quite a while, but I have certainly not abandoned fiddling.
Recently, I have started transcribing old field recordings. I have started with recordings of Melvin Wine because I love his fiddling so much. I want to share my transcriptions, and hopefully get some help or at least some input. Maybe this could become a cooperative project.
My Melvin Wine transcriptions can be found here (this is a Microsoft SkyDrive link): http://sdrv.ms/O1ypIx
I have already transcribed the following Melvin Wine fiddle tunes:
Devil in the Woodpile
Greenback Dolly-O
Jimmy Johnson
Sourwood Mountain
I plan on transcribing Lady's Waist Ribbon, Betty Baker, and Bob Wine's Tune next, though possibly not in that order. I found four tunes on the California Bluegrass Association's website (here and here), and many others at the Digital Library of Appalachia.
I could use help in the following areas:
-
I really need people to download my transcriptions, play them, check them against the recordings, etc., and submit corrections.
-
I would like to solicit input as to the formatting of my transcriptions.
-
I would like input as to which tunes to do next.
-
If anyone has more field recordings of Melvin Wine than are on the CBA or DLA websites above, please contact me.
-
I would like input as to which fiddler to work on after I am done with Melvin Wine. It just needs to be someone with available recordings that I can download or that can be provided.
I really hope I can get some collaborators here. Thanks much.
