I see what you mean. Maybe somebody else can help, but you may have to poke around on your own. Maybe some of the Bluegrassers also play Old Time?

This is probably your best bet. Be careful, though, I'm sure there'll be Portland, Seattle, and points-in-between 'weirdos' as your camp mates. Seriously, the old time community from the Pacific Northwest is made up of a diverse range of folks, not just Portland hipsters. You'll have a fine time and meet lots of kindred spirits. Give it a go, you'll have fun.

Ha, I love those "text to movie" videos. Here's another good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCVXj-hdn_w
And here's how bad it can get in Portland. I think one of those people is Canadian though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi1cljO0wYc
I have friends who've been going out to the Gathering from here the past few years its so much fun. Lots of great musicians out in the Pacific Northwest. I hope when you finally meet an old time musician you won't be disappointed, Jack. Seriously.

Jack,
I certainly wasn't offended in the least bit. No need to apologize.
I completely agree w/ Doug, the Portland Gathering is a great venue, too. I've been going for about a decade and there's always great sessions, great house parties, dances and concerts. It's no coincidence that it's the half-way point till the next Weiser (Stickerville, not the formal contest week), some call it 'Weiser in the Winter.' The goings-on at Stickerville are not too far from you, if you haven't been to it, check that out, too. It attracts the best oldtime players and really is a blast. There's a real 'community' feel to it and the music is top notch.
On an unrelated note, what's a fourteen yr old fiddler listening to (in the way of oldtime music)? I recommend that you listen to as much primary source material as possible. Drop me a PM and I'll be glad to send some material your way.
Good luck,
Bubb

No offense to me either, Jack. Hope we haven't been funnin' with you too much. In some of the videos of the Portland Gathering I see the kids of my friends, who've been at it since they were your age at least (and now its starting to be the grandkids). You'll find a scene that suits you, I'm sure.
I'm curious what you're listening too also. Concerning source materials, I posted that video of some very good musicians having fun with "Candy Girl." But here's the old recording by Uncle Bunt Stephens. You might prefer one or the other, but a lot of nuances got lost in the transition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y064kgSr0gc
