HI
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I will be in the Waltham MA area next week and I was wondering if there were any jams sessions going on. Old time, Bluegrass or Northern contra stuff is all good.
I found a regular Irish session, but I don't play many Irish tunes, so that usually isnt a good fit for me.
Thanks

The Skellig in Waltham on Sunday night! You happened to stumble onto one of the best OT sessions anywhere.

While you're there, give a nod to Joe Val and Gerry Robichaud, two great Waltham musicians. I think there's actually a museum you can visit too. Good place to buy a pocket watch?

Isn't The Real School of Music the place where Tim Rowell teaches? He's an awesome banjo player. You've played with him, Rick. Both up at Black Creek and at Lake Genero. If it is the same school, they post youtube vids, and Tim is in 'em.
And I know you've played with Alan Kaufman before. He's fun.

BJ, yes It would be great to play with Tim again. I checked out their web site and it does look like there is an OT jam on Thursday. Sooo a definite possibility.

Just thought I would post a followup. Turned out the only night I had open was Tuesday, which left me with a choice between Irish and Bluegrass. So I ended up going to the Bluegrass jam at Cantab Pub in Cambrige. Upstairs was a local Bluegrass band with some really good players in it. Too bad the sound system did not make that easy to figure out. The downstaris jam starts pretty late (like 10:00) in the "rustic" basement. But once the jam started, holy crap, what a great jam! I was definily out of my league with level of some of the players there, but had a blast anyway. The crowd was mostly young ( < 30ish) but wecloming and alot of fun. I figured out that some of the "kids" were Berley students and pretty serious about this.. Next time I will make a effort to get to Alan's jam on Sunday.
Many thanks to the hangout for the suggestions.
