mezzo-forte.de/en I saw these at the Nashville NAMM show yesterday. I'm impressed! Really sounded great. Classical, 5 string, etc. Quick response, good balance, really fine focus and power, excellent non-flabby tone. I am thinking of carrying them.
Violin will be about 2500 USD. What you think?

Well they look nice, and the price seems more reasonable than what's been available up to now. I do think the market for carbon fiber instruments is limited though, at least for the present.

The market for violins is limited
The focus of these is quite remarkable. They aren't so much a replacement for wood as a different flavor of instrument.

"The market for violins is limited"
That's true, and since there a lot of good sounding instruments around in that price range, I would think these would either have to have their own sound (and a good one too) or be sold on their other qualities. For example, one of the two people I know who play carbon fiber guitars lives in Louisiana, where it might make a lot of sense.

I assume they are more durable/stable than wood, but when something does go wrong or needs adjustment, how reparable are they? I'm curious to play one. Saw a cf cello at a wedding once, sounded great. probably a tough sell to the traditional crowd, but certainly a market out there for funky looking fiddles that sound good. Do they make an electro-acoustic version, one with a pickup built in? |

I don't think they make electro-acoustic, but I wouldn't hesitate to fit a pickup bridge.
These are indeed different from the typical $2500 instrument in sound. I think the necks could be a little better, but likely a niche market. And not made in China.

What does "excellent, non-flabby tone" mean, and how can the necks be a little better?

i'll wait for them to be made in china. If sold on Ebay, even better. I would think china can copy a carbon fiber violin with no problem at all and they would sell for cheap.

Tone is focused, even, precise, rather than unfocused/soggy/unclear. Necks slightly more clubby than I like. But I'm picky. Certainly in the zone for that general level of instrument.
