There is a bowing sub group in this newsgroup. Moderators could move bowing posts to that group.
Many posts are redundant. I still think we need a FAQ option for new members. A "Suggested Reading" option would also help new fiddlers and help reduce the number of times the same question is asked. Same thing with useful websites. |

Dick,
Don't bother. This isn't a serious bowing topic, this is parody.

A PARODY for sure...you nailed it Pogo... I like the post about how: Only as many as there are fiddlers!! If you subdivide that, each fiddler has many bowing patterns and they don't always bow the same tune the same way when they play it through several times....then of course you have all THOSE tunes in the different genre's and............................ Stay tuned. Diane |

You may know that in the days when Antonio Stradivari had his shop, rivalry among the musicians of Cremona was contentious and lively, and sometimes physical. One day an especially cranky old fiddler by the name of Gafferini was picking up a new instrument he had commissioned. Of course, before paying for it he wanted to try it out to make sure all was satisfactory. He had just lifted the bow and was about to touch it to the strings, when in walked Sanguinari the violist. It happened that Gafferini and Sanguinari had had a violent quarrel simmering for years, and the sight of his enemy so enraged the old fiddler that without a moment's thought he swung at Sanguinari with his new violin and caught him a sharp blow on the head with a corner of the purfling. Well, you know how scalp wounds bleed, and though undamaged, the violin got liberally splashed. When the two feuding musicians had been separated and the violist had stomped out, noisily vowing revenge, Gafferini picked up his violin and saw the stains. Appalled that such an accident had befallen the instrument before a note had been sounded on it, he bellowed, "My Strad is bloody but unbowed!"
~Rich
(P.S. Some say a great-great-grandfather of the poet William Ernest Henley was hanging around in the shop and was so impressed by this incident that he recounted it the rest of his life, starting a tradition passed along in the Henley family for generations ... but I can't vouch for that.)

Michael, you're missing the point, or choose to. This one, of course, IS a parody...............but all the others aren't, and that's what he was referring to.

Pet peeves seem to be more active in summer. Ever notice that?
One of mine is, someone who tells people they shouldn't be interested in what they're busy discussing, just because that person isn't interested. Makes no sense to me. Could be the heat though.

Yes, but MY point is that making a serious point in a parody thread isn't likely to get it the attention it deserves... Dick's suggestion deserves better than that.

The real challenge isnt how many bow topics we could post, but how many we could post that everyone would agree on
