Hi I'm after a book of good fiddle tunes - old timey, bluegrass similiar to one I already have from Mel Bay's Southern Mountain Fiddle which is great for beginner, interm & advanced and accompanying CD.

Try the Parking Lot Picker's Songbook by Gerald Jones and Dix Bruce. It is also published by Mel Bay. The book comes in different versions for fiddle, banjo, mandolin, or guitar. It has fundamental versions of quite a few standard tunes. It has been a good resource for me. |

I have Gerald's book. Some great tunes in there. Gerald and Dix did a great job on it. Had the one for mandolin too, but I gave it away. I prefer the fiddle one. There is the Fiddlers Fake book too, by David Brody. Steve Kaufman put out some parking lot pickers books as well. All good resources. |

You can also look at Dan Levenson's Old-Time Festival Tunes book. Comes in flavors for clawhammer banjo and for fiddle/mandolin. Same tunes in each book, easy and advanced tabs for each tune, and about 117 tunes.
Each book comes with 2 CD's with each tune played once through, banjo for banjo, mandolin for the fiddle/mando book, and a free download of the tunes from Mel Bay with the fiddle tracks.
You can order from Mel Bay, your local music store, or from fiddledan's webpage.

Any suggestions for beginner fiddle instruction? I began looking down the list of books, cds, etc online. Talk about needle in a haystack.
