The media driven mind set that the violin was somehow the "Holy" instrument is misleading.  Probably 90 out of a 100 people could play something recognizable on a violin at any age before the onset of arthritis or whatever.  They just don't know  it.

I have tinkered with several "easy" instruments and found, in general, that they could be very difficult when played at full potential.  Personally, I never even owned a violin until I was 65 and realized that it was, indeed, just another instrument with some unusual requirements.

My purpose is not to put down the violin but rather to mitigate the fears about learning it.

Did starting at 65 do me any good?  Yes, lots of fun but I still sound like someone who started at age 65 !
