Hi all. My first post and excuse me if this is not allowed or is breaking a rule. I'm basically a beginner fiddler (9 months now) and I have an old fiddle tune that was recorded on a cassette tape that was my wife's grandfathers who was a Cape Bretoner. She want's me to learn the tune so I can play it for her (it reminds her of her much loved grandparents) but I'm having a tough time figuring out the notes. I've transferred the tune to an MP3 and was wondering if there's software out there that can play this and transcribe the notes?

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers,

John

I am looking for years for such SW. Some SW is better then others but all have difficulties decoding the fiddle frequencies. If the fiddle players fiddle is not tuined correctly or his intonation is off all SWs are giving up and deliver nonsense notes.

I suggest to slow down the music and then transcribe it, not by note.

I've not found anything that would input mp3 and output notation. But I have used Intonia to see what notes are being played and be able to write notation from that.

I suggest you include the sound file with your post. Canadian listmembers may be able to supply the name of the tune. When you know the name of the tune, you can start searching for the musical notation and other recordings of the tune.
If this is a tune found in Cape Breton fiddler's repertoire, the notation will probably be available.
