... and already I really, really like it. Snakewood in color, and the featherweight model. Grabs the strings really well too. I know some folks have had a little trouble adjusting to its light weight and bounce, but for my playing it's perfect. Really glad I got it.

Hill Dark, but I'm not enough of a good player yet to notice clearly whether the type of rosin makes much of a difference in my playing. Perhaps someone with more experience could chime in here.

Based on all the positive reviews here, I'm ordering mine next week. And I think I'm going to try some of the magic rosin too. They make a bow for people who play 5 strings or more. I'm going to get that one. I'm looking forward to getting mine and trying it out. |

I'm going to make a point of trying the magic rosin too.
I have a Dahlia 5 I purchased (just very slightly used, practically new) this Spring also, and I think I will order one of the Incredibows made for the five string violins as well. Really like that Dahlia 5 -- opens up some more "fiddle chord voicings" with that low C string.

Yes, Dan it does. I just ordered my Magic Rosin. Looking forward to trying it out. If I like it and it doesn't make me sneeze (some rosins do that to me), I'm going to get another cake and put it away. I love my Dahlia 5, and I think when I get back home I'm going to try some different strings on there. But, let's keep this focused on that wonderful bow you just got. Could you do a sound file using it? |

Keep in mind that I've only very recently moved into the Intermediate realm as a fiddler (just began the instrument last Fall), but nevertheless I'll try to record and upload something in the next few days ... with the Incredibow, also a relatively cheap wooden bow that came with a $200 fiddle I bought from Stevie Barr at Barr's Fiddle Shop (Galax, VA), and a Coda Aspire carbon fiber bow ... and using two fiddles/violins, one in standard tuning playing one tune and the other cross tuned to GDGD playing another tune, each fiddle with the three different bows (and every attempt will be made to try to obtain the same degree of bow/hair tension on the wooden and carbon fiber bows as the Incredibow seems to have). We'll see if the true "audiofiles" can actually discern the differences, particularly when all is being played only by a Beginning-Intermediate player.

I just ordered my own Incredibow. The high tension kind in the snake wood color. I should have it some time next week. The high tension kind is for those who play with more than 4 strings. I'm looking forward to getting and trying it out. |

I've only recently starting along the fiddle path; just hours into it, but I love it already. As an extreme beginner, would you recommend purchasing an incredibow or other CF bow or should I gain more experience on a traditional bow before moving up? Not trying to cheat the learning process, but being a newbe at 61, any advantage to help the learning process would be great. THANKS!

Well my viola incredibow just arrived today for Father's Day. Really like the tone I get on my 5-stringer, viola and octave fiddle.

Pardon my breach of etiquette with the question I posted earlier today. It was not appropriate to this forum. I'll be more careful in the future.

Every single person who reads your question will have an opinion, so as far as I can tell there is no right or wrong answer -- just what works for you. I began playing in my mid 40s, and I wish I got the Incredibow sooner. But others don't like it one bit. It isn't very expensive, and you can try it out for a few days before returning it if it is not for you.
In the top corner of this page is the search box. Type in Incredibow and read all the posts about it. Opinions run high and deep!
(Welcome to the forum. Don't think there was any breach of etiquette in your post at all!)

quote: Think you'll really like it. I do mine. Much better control of the bow with the lightweight. Actually, I had much more bounciness when I was using a regular bow. The Incredibow doesn't bounce as much as the old one.
After you've used it a while, you'll need to get the gum/rosin out of the bow. Eventually it will begin to muck up and won't grab the strings. Best thing I've found is to take some denatured alcohol - you can get at Lowe's or any hardware store, and use an old toothbrush to really get down between the fibers. I tried first using regular alcholol without much luck although I think the toothbrush really made the difference.

I received my Incredibow in the mail today. Holy Cow! I love this bow. It's awesome. I got the one for 5 stringed instruments in snakewood. Personally, I like it better than my Codabow... It's so light, and easy across the strings. I'm testing rosin on it now. The Magic Rosin doesn't seem to work as well, so I'll save it for my Codabow. I can't get over how cool this bow is. Scuse me while I go play some more.... |
