I'll be spending a week or so just north of Asheville around the 4th of July.  We'll be staying in Celo, between Micaville and Spruce Pine.

Folks from around that way, are there any open jams I can watch out for?

Thanks!

Bruce Greene lives near Burnsville.  There are lots of others in that area that play too.  Checkout the jam in Marshall on Thursdays.

Oh, lordy!  I forgot all about  dancing!  I've been to the WW dance, but my daughter reports the Grey Eagle one is especially nice, too.

Maybe fiddling will wait this time around . . .

I - in my limited experience - have never seen anything like the dance Mondays at the Gray Eagle in Asheville.  Furious, fueled 20-somethings who really know what they are doing.  I'd guess there were about 200 people there, four full lines and almost no room to spare.

If you like contra, this is not to be missed.  Alter your road trip plans to go that way on a Monday!  Hell, I'm moving there when i give up working for money just so I can go for my weekly fix. There were lots of other people there closer to my age as well, and everyone was having a grand time.

I can't remember the name of the band, but they were superb, switching through three tunes on each song, seamlessly.  The caller was great as well.  I was still tapping my feet the next morning.

I think the Inexplicabillies were there last night. They're from Upstate South Carolina. Glad to here you had a good time in this area.
