Lee have you been looking in my cupboard?

Don't listen to humbled, he always gets away scot free with his puns. I used to get sent a-kilt-er with his comments until I realised he's just a disen-chanter. Don't pay too much attention to what you reed.

My neighbor had the nerve to be banging on my door at 2:30 this morning. Fortunately I was up, playing my bag pipes.

Walking around Edinborough the sound of a lone piper drifting down from the mount is fantastic.
The sound of pipes drifting across the glen or from a castle keep is wonderful.
Being inside a closed room with 12 highland pipers is deafening.

Any instrument has it's time and place.

EXCEPT THE MARCHING BAND KAZOO!!!!!!!

I don't know about Highland pipes, but we uilleann pipers have great craic via Na Píobairí Uilleann's discussion boards. Plus that way we filter out the riff-raff who can only play 9 notes as opposed to the full 2 octaves on any uilleann set!

Only messin! Sheath all of those scian dubhs.

Here's a link for those interested:

You also filter out all the sassenoch's who can't make heads or tails out of Gaelic.  I think you folks did it on purpose when they were first adapting the Gaelic tongue into English spelling.  Now,  THAT keeps the riff-raff out!  big

A scian dubh should only be sheathed again once it has drawn blood.

So, if a company of Bag Pipers were to be sent overseas could you say 'air bags deployed'?

OK, truth be told they are an awesome sounding instrument.

Forgot to add that the term 'war pipes' most likely comes from the original language: píob mhór, literally 'big/great pipes'. The latter word sounds like 'wore' when spoken. (For morphologists out there, this is called séimhiú (lenition) in Irish, the adjective lenited by the noun preceding it: 'mór' to 'mhór', sounds like 'more' to 'wore'.)

Not that the Scottish pipes aren't out of place on a battlefield.

Okay okay, for the morphology of bag- pipes, proper, as rooted out by Elmer Klanksdipper, fiddler and annointed interplanetary geomorphologist, let us begin with the beginning part of bagpipes: bag:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/old+bag

So we've got the "old, ugly tempered woman" connected to the pipe:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pipe

Look namely at #6 to get the "vocal chords or voice" and we can but yield to the truest meaning of the term:

An old, ugly tempered woman singing (or yelling) is the sound closest to the bagpipe.

Looking for only the purest meaning in words,

Humbled

Gosh, hmmm, I think I must sound like bagpipes! Well when our daughter was little we would sometimes run down to spend the day in the smoky mts, and along the streets of Gatlinburg, there would be a parade of kilted guys paying bagpipes, and shoppers along the streets would fall in line and just follow the bagpipers until you saw a long parade going along the streets spontaneously...our daughter used to look for them because she really loved it. Now up here where we live we are close to an urban area but kinda squished up into a little holler- like spot between urban interstate exchanges...all squished up onto a hillside with lots and lots of crowded up wildlife pushed away from their homes...and just beyond all the tiny properties on our little side of the hill is a huge cemetery...so, many times we hear gun salutes followed by amazing grace wafting down through the hills across to us...it's very somber- sounding and just about takes your breath away...I'm not crazy about bagpipes up close, but in some situations they are a thing of rare beauty.

Not exactly a Hangout, but of course there are forums, like this:  http://forums.bobdunsire.com/forums/index.php  Well organized too.

At least they don't have to deal with "WAYFS?"

Go forth and multiply.

If only they would invent an accordian mute.  Nice set of pipes, but they sound just like an accordian.big

Badgers? Badgers? We don' need no steenking badgers.

The only badger that should be associated with bagpipes is the Tadger Badger.

The tadger badger hangs in front of a kilt, some folks call them sporrans.

Why no bagpipe hangout.  Because it would just be a lot of hot air.
